The 'Other' Hingertys in OZ

John Hingerty of Templemore, Tipperary, Ireland sailed into Sydney on 13th February, 1841 aboard the ship Jane Gifford as an assisted immigrant farm servant.

On the shipping record his age is listed as 28 and his parents are listed as "Eliz th" which probably equates to Elizabeth.

No birth or baptism records have been found for this John Hingerty in Templemore, Tipperary.

In 1845 John married Isabella McDonald at Goulburn, New South Wales and they went on to have ten children founding a Hingerty dynasty in Australia. John died at Rosegreen, Temora, NSW in 1889.

I am a descendant of John Hingerty and Isabella McDonald.

John Hingerty of Templemore was not however the only Hingerty to arrive on Australian shores.

The table below lists Hingertys who emigrated to Australia from Ireland

To find out more about these 'other' Hingertys, go to the Hingerty One Name Study Website, type in the name of a Hingerty arrival and check out their part of the family tree. Let me know if you have more information to add to their part of the tree.

Are you a descendant of any of the 'other' Hingertys who sailed to Australia?

I would love to hear from you!

  1. Thank you. I am related to Mary Hingerty / Patterson / Lucas. Pity we don't know her parents.

    1. Hi Lyn, Unfortunately records are few and far between for Ireland at this time. The only Hingertys that we can find records for in that time period in Ireland are in northern Tipperary- so we would assume that your Mary is from there too.
