One Family- Three Countries

Denis Hingerty 1809-1864 and Anne (Nancy) Grace 1814-? were married in Tipperary in 1834.

They had seven children all born in the Monsea area of Tipperary, Ireland.

Six of their seven children left Ireland for Australia and/or Lancashire, England.

One daughter, Anne died in Ireland at the age of 20. She may have emigrated if she had lived, or maybe she planned to stay at home to look after her parents...we will never know.

The oldest two daughters Mary and Honor emigrated to Lancashire prior to their father's death in 1864. Mary married Daniel Quin in Lancashire in 1853.

Mary and Daniel moved on to Victoria, Australia in 1854. Within a year of their arrival in Australia, Mary's husband Daniel died, leaving Mary with a young baby. Mary re-married William Warren in Victoria three years later. They were blessed with a large family of 7 girls and 2 boys.

When Mary's brother, John, arrived in Victoria, Australia in 1868, he was in contact with his sister. Two years after his arrival in Victoria John took over the hotel previously managed by his brother in law William.  All did not go well for John. Within 4 years of taking over the hotel, there were serious debts to be paid. John died in the asylum in Liverpool just outside of Sydney in 1903. He never married.

Mary and John's siblings Honor, Patrick, Dennis and Bridget all emigrated to Lancashire. One would expect that they stayed in contact and supported each other in their new country.

All four of the siblings married in Lancashire.

Honor married Michael Meara in 1863, Patrick married Mary Dooley in 1867, Bridget married Francis Keating in 1870 and Dennis married Mary Barrett in 1888.

Sadly, Dennis died in 1889 a year after he married, the same year as the birth of his first child,  Thomas. Young Thomas and his mother moved back to Ireland.

In 1911 Thomas was a gardener living with his cousin Bridget Mullin in Maynooth, Kildare, Ireland.  Thomas (now a police constable) married Frances Kelly in Dublin in 1917 and established his family in the Dublin area.

Are you a descendant of any of the far flung children of Denis and Anne (Nancy)?

I would love to hear from you!
