The Hingertys of Stafford, England

Patrick Hingerty (1811-1866) married Bridget Carroll (1817-1890) in 1835. They had six children in the Nenagh area of Tipperary from 1836 to 1850.

A Patrick Hingerty is listed in the Griffiths Valuation in 1853 in the Nenagh area- is this the same Patrick?

Sometime after 1853 Patrick and Bridget emigrated to Stafford, England with two of their sons, Daniel and Michael Richard.

They ran a boarding house at 12 Black Walls North and in the Staffordshire Advertiser of 7th April 1855 it was reported that they were fined 10 shillings for breaching the lodging house by-laws.

In the 1861 UK Census there are ten lodgers plus the family living in the four roomed cottage at 12 Black Walls North!

Patrick died of bronchitis in January 1866. Bridget outlived her husband and all but one of her children. She died in Stafford in 1890.

Her son Daniel outlived his parents and all his siblings. He died in the Staffordshire asylum in 1917. He never married.

The youngest child of Patrick and Bridget, Michael Richard married Catherine McDonald in 1873 in Walsall, Staffordshire.

Sadly, Michael Richard died of typhoid fever in January 1885 leaving Catherine with four young children and a new baby due in April.

Tragically, in 1922, Catherine and her son Daniel were found dead in their beds. The Dublin Evening Telegraph 9 November 1922 reported that they had died from gas leaking from a ruptured pipe in the road outside their home.

Hingerty descendants living in the Stafford area today descend from one of two sons of Catherine and Michael Richard. Michael (1883-1955) married Mary Elizabeth Norwood in 1909. His brother John (1885-1940) married Mary Beckett in Leicester in 1907.
