Hingerty One Name Study Website

The Hingerty One Name Study is registered with the Guild of One Name Studies.

A Hingerty website is hosted by the Guild and can be found at hingerty.one-name.net.

The website is only in its beginning stages and currently the only functions operating are the:

*  SEARCH function- type in the name of your Hingerty ancestor in the search boxes and see if they are in the tree- let me now if they are not there or if any of their details are incorrect or incomplete. (NB Living people do not appear in the tree)

* FEATURES- YDNA Project- this is a link to the FTDNA site which hosts the Hingerty YDNA Project. Please contact me if you are interested in being part of this project.

* FEATURES- Hingerty Blog- which is a link to this blog!

The initial focus has been to locate all Hingerty name-bearers across time and across the world and to place them into family groups.

This has been a challenging task which still has a long way to go....

In the coming months documents and sources will be added to individuals in the tree on the website (once I work out how to add them!) 

Meanwhile, go to my tree on Ancestry Hingerty (Working) Tree to view sources, photos and documents.  (NB Living people are listed as Private and no details are shown in the tree)

Background: We currently have nine Hingerty BigY700 testers representing the four exisiting Hingerty lines with living Hingerty males. We have the results of eight of the tests, the most recent (BH, USA) becoming available this month (January 2023). The ninth test (SH, Australia) was only taken and posted to the lab in Texas in late December. We will have those results in a few month's time. We are using a combination of: * Genealogical data * STR data from YDNA testing (111 Markers) * SNP data from YDNA testing (BigY700)  to answer our two research questions  Are all Hingertys related?  How are they related? Is this the Hingerty Homeland?

Is this the Hingerty Homeland? Place names in Ireland often reflect the clans and families who previously occupied the land. While researching early references to the O'hlongadail name, I came across "Family Names of County Cork" by Diarmuid O Murchadha. He mentions the townland of  Kippaghingerghill  in the Bantry area of Cork. The name Kippaghingergill translates to "Long plot of land belonging to the O'Hingerdills". This is what it looks like if we zoom in a bit closer. Overlaying the "South West Ireland 12th Century Clan Map"  with Google Maps, it looks like Kippaghingerghill is in the same area as the clan map locates the O'Hingerdill. For further information re pronunciation, meaning and references to this townland, see Irish department of Heritage and Culture  for this location.
