A SNP for "our John"- Hingerty YDNA Project Report April 2023
The Big Y 700 test results for tester SH from Australia are now in.... and the good news is that they have revealed a SNP (a YDNA mutation/variation) that most likely formed when John Hingerty (1813 Tipperary-1889 New South Wales) was conceived!
Our Hingerty YDNA tree now looks like this (the new SNP being marked with a star)
Thank you to SH who tested- his results have made this identification of the "John Hingerty" SNP possible.
As stated in the January YDNA report:
Our focus now needs to turn to the Irish and Stafford lines.
You need two testers to both be positive for a SNP and all others to be negative, for a new SNP to be named and dated.
To achieve this state of affairs you need two men who are closely related to test.
This has yet to be achieved on the Irish and Stafford lines as there are to date only one tester on each of these lines.
Our research cannot progress without these additional testers.
Further testers on these two lines will assist us to:
- research the relationship between Patrick and Denis- were they brothers?
- assist us to identify a timeline to the shared ancestor for the Stafford and Irish lines
- firm up the date for "Father Hingerty"
This would move our Hingerty research forward tremendously.
Of great interest would also be results for testers from surnames such as Ingerton and Hingerton that appear to be variations of a shared surname history. This would also move us forward in identifying a date for "Father Hingerty" and a better understanding of the relationships between the various surnames associated with Hingerty in the north Tipperary area in the 1700s and 1800s.
We have achieved great things so far- we just need to keep the forward momentum in order to answer our research question:
How are all Hingertys (and Hingertons and Ingertons) related?
