John Hingerty- An Australian Artist

John Hingerty (1930-2019) was a self-taught Australian artist who, after a career in fashion, achieved significant success. 

His work, primarily landscapes and seascapes, executed in oil, watercolour, acrylic, and pastel, was exhibited widely and is held in numerous collections. 

In 1994 his painting Memories of Georges River was gifted by Hurstville Council to the sister city of Shiroishi in Japan.

John Hingerty was also a respected member of the art community, serving as president of the St. George Art Society in Sydney. 

His paintings have sold at auction for prices ranging up to $629 USD. 

John Hingerty died in 2019.

His legacy rests on a prolific career dedicated to his art and mentorship.

"Birchgrove" bought in 2000 by (non Hingerty descendant) Andrew who says of his paining: "..it's a great privilege to have this bright canvas to look at every time we pass the front door. Often we just stand there for a few seconds looking at it before taking off our shoes."

Background: We currently have nine Hingerty BigY700 testers representing the four exisiting Hingerty lines with living Hingerty males. We have the results of eight of the tests, the most recent (BH, USA) becoming available this month (January 2023). The ninth test (SH, Australia) was only taken and posted to the lab in Texas in late December. We will have those results in a few month's time. Is this the Hingerty Homeland?

Is this the Hingerty Homeland? Place names in Ireland often reflect the clans and families who previously occupied the land. While researching early references to the O'hlongadail name, I came across "Family Names of County Cork" by Diarmuid O Murchadha. He mentions the townland of  Kippaghingerghill  in the Bantry area of Cork. The name Kippaghingergill translates to "Long plot of land belonging to the O'Hingerdills". This is what it looks like if we zoom in a bit closer. Overlaying the "South West Ireland 12th Century Clan Map"  with Google Maps, it looks like Kippaghingerghill is in the same area as the clan map locates the O'Hingerdill.
